Cupcake porn seems to fall into a category all its own, because it is a perfect amalgamation of food porn and decorating porn. I see these everywhere.

Why call it Porn?

Because it arouses the senses.

Because it stimulates your appetite or drive.  Because it makes you WANT something.

Because it creates an unreasonable and unattainable standard. Your house, dinner, or place settings will never look this good…but you’ll still try.


Marketers love porn. Porn will drive your click-through rates sky high. If you post a link to Facebook and the preview picture is of a cupcake, people will click. If you can create porn around your product, you can create lust of any kind. Shoelust, sofalust, yes even drapeslust.

This is not just about drapes. There’s a sensual experience here that you could have if you’d just navigate over to the add to cart and, oooh, click “Buy.” Mmmm.

It’s never just about drapes.

It’s about an experience, a fantasy, a story of a beautiful room you could be in. If you make the person lust for the experience, you will never want for customers.
